Blast in a coal mine in Donetsk, Ukraine

Saturday, December 1, 2007

Another blast shook the Ukrainian coal mine Zasyadko in Donetsk, where over 100 miners died in a methane blast in November. According to the United Press International news agency, 52 miners were injured. The ITAR TASS news agency reports also that most of them suffered carbon monoxide poisoning and were taken to an occupational diseases treatment clinic, while seven were hospitalised at the central hospital of the Donetsk region.

Marina Nikitina, a local officer of the Ukrainian’s industrial safety agency Gosgorpromnadzor, informed the press that all of the 385 miners who were underground when the explosion occurred, have been already evacuated. According to her, the blast took place at 5.55 a.m. EET (UTC+2) in an isolated part of the collery at the deep of 1078 metres, where 63 people were working. A Ukrainian TV channel Kanal 5 reports the disaster has been caused by a methane blast. It informs also that Vitalij Shevchenko, the mine’s general engineer, has been ousted from his post by the Ukrainian mining supervision.

It is the second explosion in two weeks that happened in the pit. The November 18 blast is regarded among the Ukrainian media as the worst coal-mining disaster in Ukraine’s post-Soviet history.

Today’s blast is a part of deadly series of accidents in the Ukrainian coal mining industry; in the Donetsk region alone about 200 people have died this year.

Recreational Vehicles,What A Ride}

Recreational Vehicles,What A Ride

by

Would you like to take a recreational vehicle on your next holiday trip? If you would, you are not alone, more and more families are discovering that life in a recreational vehicle is fantastic fun. We have all heard that home is where the heart is, but a recreational vehicle be a permanent home you have been dreaming of or just a weekend or holiday time home.

Travelling in a recreational vehicle or motor home is often a good choice for those who want to travel to different areas; however, it may be less suited to those who visit the same location year after year. Most people who decide to make a recreational vehicle their permanent home choose to live in a Class motor coach or a large travel trailer. In fact, many people choose to rent a recreational vehicle to “try out” the lifestyle before they buy one.

You have to undergo good research to locate a lender who can supply you with good finance to enable you to buy a used recreational vehicle. And even a person with a bad credit history can get access to loans and thus finance a RV. Renting a recreational vehicle is a good idea if you are not sure that owning an RV is right for you at this time.

Submit your loan application only after you have received all the information about monthly payments and other costs that you may not be aware of unless you dig a little deeper and ask the appropriate questions. Use of an online RV loan calculator will provide a good indication of how much you can afford to loan for your new or second hand RV.It will also provide a breakdown of how much the repayments are likely to be month on month.

You need to choose your recreational vehicle based on what you feel comfortable driving-or that you think you would become comfortable driving with a little time behind the wheel. Because ultimately if you make the wrong choice and need to sell trying to get a good deal out of selling your recreational vehicle maybe tougher than selling your ordinary car or bike.

Cost is probably the single most important factor in choosing a recreational vehicle. Regarding RV insurance and how much you are likely to pay for it,bear in mind the contents you will carry in your RV will greatly exceed what you may ordinarliy carry in a standard vehicle. RV travellers realize the cost savings of this type of travel.

Your credit history can be very important when trying out for various forms of financing your RV. One of the first things that you can do when shopping for your RV loan is to look on a financing website. There are certainly other things to consider, and all of the above should be understood much more elaborately, and more detailed information is available from RV insurance specialists readily available on the internet

If you will mostly be taking the family for an occasional weekend at the lake or in the mountains, you may just want one of the smaller RVs such as a pop up tent trailer or a camper van. Other cost factors to include are for example, when you buy a used RV you will usually pay a slightly higher interest rate, but you will be saving on the purchase price

There are also driving courses offered in many areas that are specifically for RV owners. The Class A is the biggest motorized RV on the market and the most luxurious and the common person would really struggle to control such a vehicle the very first time behind the wheel so take my advice and get the proper training. It may just save your life or at the very least save you thousands of hard earned dollars . And finally its possible to invest anywhere from $10,000 to well over $300,000 on recreational vehicles. So be sure that you are totally comfortable with all aspects of your purchase before you sign your life away because as is always the case buyer beware is the mantra that governs purchases like this.

United States: Berkeley, California declares itself a sanctuary city for recreational cannabis

Friday, February 16, 2018

On Tuesday, the city council of Berkeley, California adopted by unanimous vote a resolution declaring their city a “sanctuary” for adult recreational cannabis use and sale. The resolution by the Berkeley council “declared [the City of Berkeley] to be a sanctuary for recreational cannabis customers, providers, and landlords.”

The resolution bars city employees including police from assisting federal law enforcement officials, namely the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, in enforcing federal laws relating to cannabis. The city’s measure includes protection for cannabis, but not other substances controlled and regulated by the federal government. California voters approved a referendum in 2016 that legalized cannabis production and sale in the state. That law took effect on January 1 this year.

The resolution was drafted by Mayor Jesse Arreguin and Councilmembers Ben Bartlett and Cheryl Davila.

While cannabis became legal for adults at least 21 years old under California state law, it remains a prohibited substance under the federal Controlled Substances Act. Under the U.S. Constitution, federal law is given supremacy to contradictory state and local law.

In 2008, the city previously declared itself a sanctuary city for medical cannabis, opposing federal officials seeking to shutter legal-in-California cannabis dispensaries.

In a tweet following the vote, the Berkeley mayor wrote, “In light of threats by Attorney General [Jeff] Sessions regarding a misguided crackdown on our democratic decision to legalize recreational cannabis, we have become what may be the first city in the country to declare ourselves a sanctuary city for cannabis.” The attorney general is the top federal law enforcement official in the U.S.

Last month, Sessions repealed a policy from the previous presidential administration providing legal shelter to states that legalized recreational cannabis. A January 4 memo from Sessions called for Justice Department prosecutors to enforce the federal ban on cannabis use and sale.

By another vote during the same meeting the city council reduced the sales tax on cannabis from 10 percent to 5 percent in a bid to draw more business.

Report urges Kenya to ban plastic bags

Wednesday, March 9, 2005File:Plastic bag stock sized.jpg

They are cheap, useful, and very plentiful, and that is exactly the problem, according to researchers. A report issued on Feb. 23 by a cadre of environment and economics researchers suggested that Kenya should ban the common plastic bag that one gets at the checkout counter of grocery stores, and place a levy on other plastic bags, all to combat the country’s environmental problems stemming from the bags’ popularity.

How Technology Is Helpful In Detecting Cable Faults And Pin Pointing Fault Locations?}

How Technology Is Helpful In Detecting Cable Faults And Pin-Pointing Fault Locations?

by

disha raikar

High Concern And Attention Are Required For High Voltage Cables!

Cables are of different types that vary as per the aspects of carrying velocity of the current. Low voltage cables, medium voltage cables, and high voltage cables are the types of cables that are broadly distinguished. Damages in the low and medium ranging cables can be easier as these are limited to the areas of installation or service.

The main challenge is detecting the faults in the high voltage cables. The high voltage cables that are extended up to kilometres from the source point to the end-users or end-accessing point are extended in series.

In some spaces, these are extended hanging overhead while in some spaces these cables are buried under the ground. For locating the cable faults, it is inevitable to assign company offering

high voltage cable fault locator services in India

.

Technology Lessens the Effort and Expenses of Cable Fault Detection

As per the traditional concept, for the underground cables, the entire land was excavated and was searched for the faulty cable as well as the location of fault which was a process of high effort and high time consumption.

The end-users dont have the patience to wait for so long as each of the chores of day-to-day life is adjoined with electricity, from morning till night! With the advancements in technology, effective and powerful instruments have been invented that makes the work of detecting faulty cables and fault location in cable seamless and faster with low effort investment and low expenses as well.

Assign Company Rendering TDR Services

It is worthy to assign company

cable fault locator TDR services in India

. The company rendering fault detection services with TDR are highly efficient. Time-Domain Reflector is an instrument that utilizes the time-domain reflectometry that characterizes the cables and locates the fault in the metallic high voltage cables.

How TDR Effectively Pin-Points Fault?

The TDR instrument measures the reflections of the conductors for detecting the faulty cable within the series of cables.

Transmitting incidental signal through the conductor this instrument waits for receiving the reflection of the signals.

If the signal received back is uniform, then the cable is perfectly working without any faults if the cable block the signal or there is no signal received then the cable is considered to be faulty.

TDR works on the principle of radar!

Engineers Having Empowered Knowledge with Deploying TDR Must Be Assigned

This electronically improvised equipment TDR is highly useful in detecting the faulty cable as well as pin-pointing the fault in the underground cable as well as the overhead cables. As high voltage is dangerous and threatening the process must be handled with care.

Assigning the company rendering high voltage cable fault locator services in India it is indeed a worthy decision. The engineers appointed at the company are certified, registered and highly talented with good experience.

Having empowered knowledge regarding the utilization of the instrument in a precise way, the engineers flawlessly detect the faulty cable and pin-point the fault location as well.

R K Lala are the best cable fault locators working since 1988. They identify and fix the cable faults using all new efficient and advanced machineries

British Climatic Research Unit’s emails hacked

Thursday, November 19, 2009

Unknown individuals gained access to a server of University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU). As a result, around thirteen years of email correspondence between researchers is now available worldwide. Substantial previously unpublished climate change observations are included.

According to initial reports by TGIF Newspaper and the Watt’s Up With That blog, hundreds of emails and documents were made available from a FTP site on a Russian server with an accompanying statement:

“We feel that climate science is, in the current situation, too important to be kept under wraps. We hereby release a random selection of correspondence, code, and documents”

Some journalists suppose that this event is a consequence of increased attention on CRU after it played a substantial role in the IPCC fourth assessment report (2007).

The released data is a 62 megabyte zip file, containing around 160 megabytes of emails, pdfs and other documents. Some of the contents have been confirmed as genuine by the head of the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, Dr Phillip Jones. In an interview with TGIF Newspaper, he stated that a breach of security had taken place and that a large quantity of files had been “stolen”. The interviewer discussed one of Dr. Jones’ published e-mails:

Once Tim’s got a diagram here we’ll send that either later today or first thing tomorrow. I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd [sic] from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline. Mike’s series got the annual land and marine values…

The interviewer asked Dr. Jones to explain the phrase “hide and decline”, but he answered that he had no idea what he meant by using them (as they were made in the context of a discussion taking place 10 years ago), and he had not attempt to mislead:

No, that’s completely wrong. In the sense that they’re talking about two different things here. They’re talking about the instrumental data which is unaltered – but they’re talking about proxy data going further back in time, a thousand years, and it’s just about how you add on the last few years, because when you get proxy data you sample things like tree rings and ice cores, and they don’t always have the last few years. So one way is to add on the instrumental data for the last few years.

In a press release by the University of East Anglia, Dr. Jones stated that:

“That the world is warming is based on a range of sources: not only temperature records but other indicators such as sea level rise, glacier retreat and less Arctic sea ice.
“Our global temperature series tallies with those of other, completely independent, groups of scientists working for NASA and the National Climate Data Center in the United States, among others. Even if you were to ignore our findings, theirs show the same results. The facts speak for themselves; there is no need for anyone to manipulate them.
“[…]My colleagues and I accept that some of the published emails do not read well. I regret any upset or confusion caused as a result. Some were clearly written in the heat of the moment, others use colloquialisms frequently used between close colleagues.”

One such colloquialism, “trick,” is frequently used by scientists and engineers to refer to an essential or non-obvious element in the solution of a problem, as opposed to the common political usage connoting deception.

Commentators argue that the published messages show the researchers’ reluctance to publish scientific material, though it contains serious global warming observations. Some of the correspondence portrays the scientists as feeling under siege by skeptics’ and worried that any stray comment or data glitch could be turned against them.

The East Anglia University has shut down the original server, from which the information was stolen. A university spokesman stated that data was published without permission, but did not confirm whether all of the published communication is genuine:

We are aware that information from a server used for research information in one area of the university has been made available on public websites.

Because of the volume of this information we cannot currently confirm that all of this material is genuine.

This information has been obtained and published without our permission and we took immediate action to remove the server in question from operation.

We are undertaking a thorough internal investigation and we have involved the police in this enquiry.

The release of the documents comes just weeks before a major climate-change summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, meant to lay the groundwork for a new global treaty to curb greenhouse-gas emissions and fight climate change.

Hot air balloon fire kills two, injures eleven in Canada

Monday, August 27, 2007

A hot air balloon caught fire and crashed in western Canada. Two people were killed and 11 were injured.

The disaster occurred as the airship was preparing to take off from Surrey, British Columbia, a suburb of Vancouver. An unknown source caused a fire in the basket of the tethered balloon, which then broke free and rose into the air.

Of the 12 passengers and one pilot on board at the time, 11 escaped the balloon with severe burns and other non-life-threatening injuries by jumping out in mid-air. The balloon then collapsed, crashing into a motorhome park with two people still trapped on board, who were killed in the subsequent fire. Four static caravans and two cars were also destroyed in the blaze.

The two deceased are believed to be a mother and daughter. Their family was on scene during the disaster and watched as the balloon burnt up and crashed.

Witness Don Randall, who photographed the accident, said the thing went up about 400 feet (122m) in the air at which point it melted enough of the balloon it collapsed.”The basket was basically a fireball. It just dropped like a stone. I’m just thinking, ‘Oh geez, I hope there’s nobody in that thing. It’s basically a burning death up there.”‘

Bill Yearwood, an investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, told reporters what preliminary information was available: “The crew loaded 12 passengers and was preparing to launch when a fire erupted. The pilot asked the passengers to get out of the basket. The balloon was tethered at the time, but then broke and came loose. The balloon climbed into the air before collapsing in a residential area in the park. They were all trying to get out. I can’t tell you what exactly happened when the balloon was loosened from the tether.”

Injured survivor Diana Rutledge questioned the pilot, Steve Pennock,’s actions after the fire broke out, pointing out that he was first off the balloon. “He was in perfect shape,” she said. “I thought, what is this all about? Wouldn’t he have stayed on to try to stop the fires?”

Joyce Genest, a resident at the park, also questioned procedure that day. “I stopped to watch the balloon get inflated,” she said. “Normally it takes 25 minutes and it’s quite gorgeous to watch. They are never in a big hurry. This time they took about ten minutes.” She said the passengers then got straight into the balloon, an unusual occurrence. “Normally the pilot gets in and tests the gun twice and then everybody gets in.” As soon as everybody was in, he hit the gun and the flame went sideways.”

How To Take Care Of Your Carrier Gas Furnace

Submitted by: Marc Willis

If you own a carrier furnace then you know just how popular this company is. Boasted to be one of America s largest and leading manufacturers of heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) makes this company a recognized authority on gas furnaces. With over 43,000 employees working in 170 countries all over the world and selling fast moving consumables that everyone needs is probably why this company makes about $13.5 Billion dollars a year. Consumers trust in this brand because their carrier furnaces are highly efficient, very modern and all furnaces comes with a remarkable warranty that far exceeds other brands in the market.

With a market as competitive as it is when it comes to heating you can be rest assured that you money is well invested. People want quality but some of their models tend to be quite pricey and as with all machines and that involve moving parts especially ones that deal with heat and oil, you ll come across problems sooner or later. These problems usually mean that you need to repair or replace whichever parts are damaged or faulty.

There are two options open to you. It is best advised to do both of these things. The one involves learning how to troubleshoot problems as they arise and taking care of the problem yourself. The other point involves that you also buy extra carrier furnace parts, so that when you re faced with a dilemma, you can hopefully quickly and easily resolve the situation. By doing this you re not just taking care of your carrier gas furnace but you re also prolonging it s lifespan by weeks and even months. Proper care of gas furnaces can stretch their lifespan by up to 5 years in some cases.

Some of the most frequent problems you ll encounter with your carrier furnace are:

Oil burner can t start

Troubleshoot this buy looking for a blown fuse or any faulty circuit breakers. Sometimes the motor over-loads so wait for thirty minutes and press the reset button.

The Furnace won t fire up

This is common among other brands. The first step is to check if the tank is empty and refill it if it is. If after this you can t see an ignition spark then use the reset button on the stack control panel.

Not enough Heat

Start by looking if the thermostat is set to 5 , and adjust if necessary. In rare cases you ll find that the blower is to blame by being clogged and dirty. Cleaning this should sort it out. Also check and clean the air filter if it seems blocked up.

Noise

Start by looking for any loose parts or screws and adjust where you see fit. Blower and fan belts cause a lot of squeaking noises so lubricate with belt dresser or replace.

Looking after your carrier gas furnace will prevent it from having frequent hang-ups, especially during those cold winter months. Always call a professional if you find that you can t solve the problem with your carrier furnace and also be safety conscious.

Khamenei: US and Israeli intel services responsible for Iraqi shrine bombing

Friday, June 15, 2007

Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s highest-ranking religious and political leader, blamed the intelligence services of the United States and Israel for the bombing of the Askari Mosque in Samarra, Iraq. According to him,

The perpetrators of this huge crime, whether they be the remnants of the Saddamist Baath regime or the reactionary elements of Salafist and Wahhabist groups…there is no doubt that the spy agencies of the occupiers and the Zionists were the brains behind the evil plot.

On 13th of June 2007, Iraqi insurgents blew up the two minerets of the Askari Mosque. The shrine is important because it contains the remains of the Imam Hadi and Imam Askari. The son of Imam Askari is Imam Mahdi. This is especially important in the context of Iran’s politics; according to Article 5 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Khamenei as an Islamic jurist is supposed to lead the “Ummah“. Some Muslims object to this. For instance, one Islamic cleric has said that Khamenei “does not have a divine authority or right to determine the fate of other peoples and countries,” referring to Muslims outside Iran.

Khamenei urged Sunni scholars to speak out against the sacrilege and Shia Muslims to remain calm. He believes that this bombing of part of a conspiracy to fuel sectarian tensions.

Earlier, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah in Lebanon also made the same charge and said, “Without doubt, the occupiers are providing the grounds for Salafi Takfiri groups and intelligence agencies to pillage the country.”
